We all know that metronidazole is the first-line defense for a patient that presents for diarrhea. After all, it is what we have always done.
Or is it?
More recent research in both the human and veterinary medicine fields suggests that maybe we are a bit too quick to reach for that bottle of Flagyl.
The veterinary profession as a whole plays a vital role in antimicrobial stewardship.
We will discuss the indications, contraindications and the implications of its use. Additionally, we will discuss alternative therapies to its use.
